The Candidate

You must be self-motivated and have a good understanding of Systems Administration and Web Development.

Role Description

The Network Admin / Web Developer will report to the Head of Software Development and will be responsible for:

  • Providing support for our network, servers, systems and web sites. Investigating and solving issues that arise.
  • Ensuring the smooth and reliable functioning of our web, file, SQL Server and Exchange servers.
  • Maintaining and developing our various web sites (PHP internet and ASP.NET intranet).
  • Costing, purchasing, installing and maintaining hardware and software.
  • Suggesting improvements to our systems and related processes.

When required you will also:

  • Work alongside our development teams to develop systems installations appropriate to their development needs.
  • Lend your technical mindset and problem solving skills to assist others.

In this fast moving consultancy environment, flexibility and a can-do attitude is essential.

This is a hybrid role and candidates will be required to show an understanding and experience in both network administration and web development.

Competences / Skills

The candidate must have:

  • General:
    • A relevant University degree (2.2 or higher) or another I.T. focused qualification backed up by at least 2 years commercial experience.
  • Network Admin:
    • Worked in a network administration role.
    • Worked supporting and administering Windows 2000/XP/2003.
    • Hands on experience of TCP/IP networks, DNS, Active Directory, Domain management and web servers.
  • Web Development:
    • Excellent knowledge of HTML.
    • Experience developing web applications with at least one of the following web development languages (ASP.NET / PHP)

The candidate must demonstrate ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Solve problems logically using own initiative and research, requesting support from others when needed.
  • Complete tasks with little supervision and to tight deadlines.
  • Work well in a team.
  • Learn new skills quickly.

Experience of the following is desirable but not essential:

  • One or more of C#, VB.NET, Java.
  • Exchange and SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Processes & Quality Control.
